The Gateway Region YMCA has been a leader in providing the National Diabetes Prevention Program (NDPP) for over a decade. Their team of experienced coaches, some with over 12 years of experience, are passionate about helping people prevent type 2 diabetes.
When the Missouri DHSS was looking for ways to strengthen the NDPP network in the state, they introduced the YMCA to HabitNu. Impressed by the participant engagement and coach management tools, the YMCA adopted HabitNu's platform, which was especially helpful during the pandemic when in-person classes were difficult.
The partnership has been a success! The YMCA has several coaches who have earned the CDC Group Coaching Certificate, and their program offers flexible options including weekends, evenings, and even off-site locations to meet the community's needs.
"Thanks to HabitNu," says the YMCA, "we have been able to achieve more of the DPRP standards, and we have solidified the offering of distance learning going into the future. "They highlight the importance of the social aspect for participants, many of whom reported a sense of accomplishment and reduced loneliness thanks to the group setting."
Looking ahead, the Gateway Region YMCA plans to expand their program, to offer more in-person classes and reaching a wider audience. They also plan to continue providing additional support services like cooking classes and guest speakers.
